Many of the lots in this auction are from the estate of Vermont dealer/collector John Hooker.  For lots with individual stamps or covers, we have provided condition information regarding faults. Large lots are sold as is and bidders should consider that, along with good items, some faulty material is to be expected with so many stamps or covers involved. Certainly there are treasures to be found and please note that most of the large lots have a recommended starting bid of only 10% of estimated value. Covers featuring fancy cancels are in mixed condition and it is the mark, rather than the condition of the cover or stamp that you are purchasing.  Most covers are fine.  If you have any questions regarding listings, please contact us.  Please check our Terms of Sale as well for all conditions regarding this auction.  Thank you. Manuscript John, KY, postmark on this cover. Could be St. John or Blue John. Either way, a rare postmark. On U314 postal stationery cover.

Lot 144 New York - Rochester Special Delivery cover with E9 + Washington 2ct stamps.

Sock on nose postmark. Stamp was lifted and replaced to determine catalog number. Fee claimed mark at left.

Lot 145 World War I - Censor cover with 4 J52 postage due stamps and scarce due marking.

Interesting cover in many respects. Due 4 cents in circle mark is highly valued. That mark was applied in New York. However, it appears this was censored military mail from overseas, so it should have traveled without postage. Postage due stamps were applied at Ludlow MA, and postmarked with rectangular marks.

Lot 146 11 Confederate States of America - Richmond postmark ties #11 CSA stamp to Mayesville SC cover.

Four margin stamp - ragged at top right - tied by Richmond VA handstamp. Water stain across bottom. Backflap damaged in rough opening. Still a desirable CSA cover.

Lot 150 Vermont - Manchester and Brandon postmarks with 11A stamp on forwarded cover 3PAID in postmark Equinox House broadside

Outstanding 1855 stamped folded letter from Manchester Vermont. Scott 11A close, but 4-margin stamp tied by Manchester postmark, plus Brandon red postmark and red FORWARDED mark and black numeral 3. Content is promotional piece for Equinox House..."unsurpassed for beauty of scenery". Fresh and undamaged. A wonderful philatelic and Vermont historic collectible.

Lot 154 Cover lot - 32 early US covers. Variety of stamps, fancy cancels and postmarks.

Nice lot with stamp varieties and a good selection of postmarks. Stamps appear to be sound. Condition of the covers varies. Some nice corner cards. Check for fancy cancels. Postmarks include Des Moines Ioa, Media Del Co. Penna, Alexandria VA, Georgetown DC, Memphis Tenn, Maplewood NH (DPO), US Hotel art is on back of one of the covers. One cover added after photos taken is small Philadelphia cover in very nice condition.

Outstanding 1896 cover with double ring Kilauea March 6, 1896 postmark on No. 77, 78, 79 stamps. 4.5 0z rate (5cts per 1/2 ox) overpaid 2cts. Kilauea to Honolulu to Victoria BC to Dieulefit, Drome, France. Three backstamps perfectly trace the route.
