Many of the lots in this auction are from the estate of Vermont dealer/collector John Hooker.  For lots with individual stamps or covers, we have provided condition information regarding faults. Large lots are sold as is and bidders should consider that, along with good items, some faulty material is to be expected with so many stamps or covers involved. Certainly there are treasures to be found and please note that most of the large lots have a recommended starting bid of only 10% of estimated value. Covers featuring fancy cancels are in mixed condition and it is the mark, rather than the condition of the cover or stamp that you are purchasing.  Most covers are fine.  If you have any questions regarding listings, please contact us.  Please check our Terms of Sale as well for all conditions regarding this auction.  Thank you. Lot 016 Massachusetts - Boston straight line, date in circle stampless folded letter

Markings on this early cover (no date on letter, but appears to be around 1793) indicate rate for under 60 miles (gh) and the O with a flag on it is a single rate. Letter is to Rev. Chandler Robbins from his son. Rev. Chandler Robbins, D.D. was a native of Cambridge, Mass. Born August 24, 1738, graduated at Yale College in 1756, and was a distinguished classical scholar. In the revolutionary struggle he was a most zealous advocate for liberty and independence, He was among the foremost of the patriotic clergymen, Letter is readable,but in somewhat fragile condition. Note foxing on edges.

Light manuscript postmarks on both covers. Killingly SFL is to New York and shows wrinkles (see scan). Bridgewater cover (no content) is to Hartford and is very clean.

Strong Cheshire 1829 postmark. Separations at folds. Family letter. 1853 Hartford SFL with 5cts inclusive postmark contains form letter to Norwich assessors and is in very good condition.
